Hahaha, I so recognise the clothes stock taking. I’m in the middle of sorting through my wardrobe, and take out what I’ll no longer wear (being retired so no more functions, and having 3 cats means I need practical clothes) to be put in boxes for a charity. A lot of decluttering.

I wish you luck Joyce. My decluttering takes so long I still end up with all the clutter 😁😘

I have to admit that somehow I remain in ‘the middle’ instead of making progress 🙈 but I’m hopeful to finish before Spring starts 🤞

Just went down the nearest rabbit 🐇 warren for you. According to the UK meteorological office. If you go by the meteorological Spring you have until Friday, 1st March. At least it’s a leap year so you have an extra day. If you go by the astronomical Spring you have until the 20th March. I feel the latter may work better. Or spring 2025 😂😂

🤣🤣🤣 I’m with you on the astronomical Spring! There’s always hope 🤞

Though it might well be that if I’ll finish by the 20tb, there will be a new clutter stack by that time 2025 🙄🙈🤣🤣🤣

My favorite pieces of clothing are ones that fit me rather than me having to fit them. My mood. My body. What's clean. And what color makes me smile that day.

What a brilliant philosophy xxx

I love the eclectic and eccentric! Which is why you are one of the few Substacks I try to read regularly. 😻 You always have something interesting and thought-provoking to say.

As for clothes - that is a difficult one. I've descended into relying on tanks and tees, as I rarely need to dress any nicer than that. I, too, look at the various eras of clothing and wonder why I still have them. It is so difficult to let go of some items. The ones that have memories or were given to me by someone special, even if I've never worn them. There are the pieces that I really like and keep telling myself I will fit into one day. And those that are nice, for special occasions that I hang onto for that rare, once or twice a year (if I'm lucky) event when I have to choose which beloved look to don.

There are people, though, who can use the nice clothes I no longer wear and there is a good place nearby where I can donate these items. I need to get off my duff and just do it. Thanks for the challenge!

Good luck with the challenge. It’s strange how our clothes change. I think lockdown meant more people dressed casually. I used know women who wear the same smart clothes for everything. Even managing to look immaculate dog walking. Unlike me covered in mud, hair every wear and leads etc hanging out of my pockets 😂😂

I’ve tried to be brutal recently. Actually throw anything (or pop it on Vinted) that I haven’t worn in 2+ seasons. It’s hard though because I think I’m a pretty good shopper. I like nice things and therefore even if, for whatever reason (usually due to now working from home so much!) I don’t end up wearing it much/at all it’s so nice I struggle to part with it! Def something to work on, for my bank balance if not my wardrobe space 🙄

How successful have you been? 😄 it's even worse when you’re retired dog walking clothes rule 😂😂

Admittedly not very!!! I managed to part with one dress and 2 skirts…haven’t been able to move the hangars very much further apart 😂

My fave items of clothing are boots. No longer high heeled but I have a range of DM-type boots, all vegan (I couldn't afford actual vegan DMs....HOW MUCH?!) and of various colours/patterns. My favourite ones are crushed velvet in a colour I'd have loved in my teens and still love from time to time now. Purple. My size has altered (increased) throughout the decades but footwear still fits. Hoorah! x

That's the best thing about feet not growing.😂❤️

LOL! I was horrified when I started hiking for miles and miles every day - something I did for around 18 months until I discovered Substack a couple of years ago, actually) - and I found I could no longer fit in my UK size 8 walking boots because my feet had got so muscular! I'm in a men's size 9 now (European 43, US size 10).

In my defence, I'm over 6ft tall. 😉

I can't bear clothes shopping, and aside from that, I dislike the discomfort that many new clothes have - stiff and uncomfortable. My favourite things (and I wear (and wash, of course!) the same few clothes over and over) are ancient, holey, and often second-hand. If I'm going out then I'll put something on that's in decent condition, but if not, well, let's just call me 'comfy'! 🤣
