I don’t write anything down, maybe in my head I do. I like how time unfolds and things pop into our lives...opportunity, travel, surprises. An email last week said my dear Aussie friend is coming to US in March... so I’m ready to meet up with her in Houston! Everyday there’s some little thing I’m delighted with...like playing better in pickleball some days!
Love your hopes and dreams, Jo!
You’ve given some great ideas here! Thanks for that!
Making lists is a waste of time for me. I can make short, medium, long, or extra long lists and they can decay with time in a closet.
At one point in my life I realized that making plans was just as useless for me as making lists.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I live in the now, appreciate the many changes relevant to my past, and don't dare look into the future because that's the period in time that could prove what I think as being more wrong than right.
Thanks for asking, Ms. Linney. You always bring up interesting subjects to think about and comment on.
I must have been around 50 when I first heard the term "bucket list." We were at a friend's house for a party and on her coffee table sat a small silver bucket with popsicle sticks next to it. Guests were to take a stick, write something on it and stick it in the bucket, thereby helping our hostess develop her bucket list. I had to ask hubby what a bucket list was. 🤔
Needless to say, it is not something I've been interested in much. There are a couple of things I would like to do "someday," but doubt they will ever happen. The top one is to see a glacier calf in Alaska. We were supposed to go for our 15th anniversary, but couldn't get anyone to stay with the kids. Although, I did have an opportunity to spend a week in Yellowknife, Canada, and enjoy lots of moose meat, celebrate at a festival held on a frozen lake and see the aurora borealis, all of which I had never even dreamed of doing.
The second desire I have is to visit the Azores where my family is from. Because I no longer have any connections there, it probably wouldn't be as much fun as it would have been 20 years ago. That's okay. The travel hassles just don't seem worth it anymore. Besides, I enjoy all the unexpected pleasures that come my way that I don't really feel the need for big adventures.
I really enjoyed reading about some of the things on your list, Jo.
If you do go to the Tate and want company I’d be happy to meet you there for a wander and maybe a cuppa together? Perhaps when your knee is on the mend? xxx
Ah! The trouble with lists is that I always feel obliged to stick to them. Crossing things off feels good but not crossing them off has the opposite effect on me like some kind of failure. I'm not a great one for lists, but thoroughly enjoyed this piece Jo.
I don’t so much have a Bucket List, it’s more of a Fuck-It List.
I.e. Fuck-it, if not now, when?
Like take a year off to focus on my writing. 😉✍️
Sounds like a brilliant plan Kate xx
Jo, you're an inspiration - you've really got me thinking about some ideas of my own. Thank you!
I would love to know what you come up with. I am sure a joint one with Terry would be hilarious.xx
Oh wow - I'll have to suggest it! Thanks, Jo! 😁
Can’t wait xx
Another lovely thought provoking post - thanks Jo. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to wrestle a panda. Just saying 🤭
I would definitely be the one with 2 black eyes xx

Have a wonderful time in March xx
Interesting article.
Although I agree with the concept of a bucket list, the reality is there are too many things to add to one.
If I started to wring them down, it would take all my spare time keeping it updated.
In the link you provided for the bucket list suggestions, I have already done many. I guess I should consider myself lucky.
If I had a physical list and I did not do or see something, I would be disappointed.
I think it is best to keep the list in your head and take opportunities and experiences as they are presented
Be surprised. Enjoy life.
I have so many ideas in my head like you. I couldn’t write them all down xx

There is a lot to be said about living in the now. But I also like to have the occasional dream xxx

I often think of having a bucket with random ideas in it to pick out and do. I hope you do get to the Azores if travel gets easier xxxx

Definitely Hannah that’s a lovely idea xxx

I am not very good at lists either. I very rarely stick to them. Even shopping lists xxxx
Love the idea of panda 🐼 bear wrestling xx
