I remember Peanuts! He lived a long life despite his tail ❤️! Tabby was my cat. She was a force - the vet had special leather gauntlets to put on when she visited. And Harry the dog would cry wanting to go upstairs, but couldn’t as Tabby would sit half way up, waiting to bop him on the nose as he tried to get past. Whenever we were all out though and it was just Tabby and Harry we’d come home to them curled up in the same room together.

This is great. Peanuts brings back memories of our own Norton, AKA "Thumbs" (so named because he was a polydactyl cat, born with an extra toe on each of his paws).

Thumbs was a scrapper who both patrolled and terrorized our neighborhood. He had a chewed-up, scarred ear and a broken kink in his tail that left him looking like the walking dead. I was convinced that he was invincible and was going to outlive us all. Although he had no friends in the feline world, he was the sweetest boy to our family, always leaping out of the shadows to rub up against our legs every time we were headed out, and since no one else in the neighborhood wanted this mess of coarse fur and battle damage, we ended up adopting him.

Thanks Jo, your wonderful memories of Peanuts were able to help me rekindle some of my own 😼

Ditto Da. What wonderful stories of Thumbs. Definitely the local Big Boss Cat, your description of him is so clear xx

He was named for the jazz musician, Thelonious Monk, and I had a good deal of fun standing at the back door, yelling Thelonious, breaking it up into 4 parts with a little melody.

To be loved by a ginger tomcat is a huge blessing. My big ginger boy is slowing down and our days together might be numbered. I live my life when he sleeps and love him when he is awake..

We had pure ginger female at one time which was very unusual. She was very delicate, but a sweet little thing. Xx

Yes, grew up with both cats and dogs, first cat when I was under 5, inherited from a neighbor, she was a great mouser and mother, for some reason we always called her Suzy Cat. Then a Boston Terrier, Miss Tea of the Boston Tea party when I was about 8, and clearly already a budding historian. Them the ginger tabby I shared with my boyfriend, soon to be husband of over 50 years, we called him Thelonious for Thelonious Monk. Then about 7 years with no cats when graduate student housing meant no pets, a but as soon as we owned our one home, we got cats, (Jeremy and Jessie, then Courtney and Mila) and dogs (Sammy a Boston Terrier, Maggie and Ellie --two wolfhounds, Jane and Maisie (border collie mixes) and haven't been without out at least one of each until about two years ago, when last of the aged cats died and we now just have are current dog Leeza. Not surprising, my daughter and grandsons now have a dog and two cats! My favorites, both the Boston Terriers, the one of my youth, and then Sammy, the one of my adult years. He is sorely missed, but I've been able to spend time with him because he is the model for the character, Dandy, in my historical mysteries.

Reading about Peanuts made me smile. It was a much nicer way to start the day than reading the news.
