I gave up watching the news (again) after covid. Funnily enough, I don’t miss all the doom and gloom. 😊

Hi Jo, I stopped reading the news in November and my nervous system is much calmer as a result. Can't see myself ever returning to it... x

Right there with you, Jo…I don’t watch the news either! My phone pops up with something “breaking” but even that is abided these days when it turns out to be non-news or celebrity gossip. I try to be optimistic about the election…support and speak up when I can, but light and friendly is much easier on my heart and head! 💙🇺🇸💙Love your ‘glamour shot’…you are fun and funny, girl!

I need to delete my two news apps - I have no idea why I feel the need to beat myself over the head with it on a multiple-times-per-day basis. Your post is exactly what I needed to read - thanks, Jo. 😘

I completely agree with absolutely everything you wrote in this post. So thanks for expressing it all so beautifully. And I love the clip, although I confess I had to listen more than once to understand the accent.

I get my news 2nd hand from my kids. I'll let them distill what is really important for me.

I have always been an open-minded, accepting person and don't mind having friends with opinions that are different from my own. My kids, however, have a hard time accepting our political differences. They keep trying to debate with me, which I will not do.

However, we did have an interesting debate regarding police policy the other day. My son is a cop. There was a situation where a mentally ill man was wielding a baseball bat in a store. When the first police officer arrived he attempted to de-escalate the situation by trying to take the bat from the man.

I questioned my son on that. Is trying to take something from an agitated person truly a de-escalation technique? Personally, I don't think so. I asked him to think back to when he was a child. How would he react if I reached out and took something from him? He certainly would not calm down!

Poor kid got very upset that I was "challenging" the way he had been trained and the wide-spread techniques used by the police in hazardous situations. Yeah, I tend to pop bubbles. What can I say?
