My brain is frazzled, fried, over heated - you get the gist, it's a tad hot - and for once I feel I can geniunely mutter about the heat. It is very hot here, 29 degrees at 10 am and this country is not geared up for it. I'm not going to go on, just accept life is cancelled for the next few days and get on with it, or to put it more honestly, get on with nothing except some Linney eclectic and eccentric musings.
My garden is a haven of peace and quiet in normal circumstances that is until Open Gardens as I recounted last week and last Saturday over 100 from a concert at the church picnicking in our garden - see photos above. One minute it was all peaceful, the next minute the swarm appeared up the steps, an hour later the swarm left. However much I tried, I could not find any rubbish at all, nothing. Not even a speck of paper and much to the disgust of Mildred not even a crumb to hoover up. The devil in me thought of letting her lose to rampage amongst the picnickers, but neither her kidneys nor the extremely friendly and well behaved picnic crowd could have coped with resulting carnage. Humphrey’s ghost like figure watched on from the bedroom, he’s not a crowd type dog and finds it all too much.
It is definitely too hot for my brain I have just had to delete a whole section because it was too similar to last week, d’oh.
A couple of Substacky things. I was disappointed to read Louise Tilbrook’s note on the reaction she had received to her invite to go the Substack Fete. It is writers like Louise who should be celebrated they have worked so hard to build up their communities on Substack without the benefit of celebrity. What is wrong people? Yes, I would have loved to be invited, but seeing people like Louise there gave me a good feeling. Yes Substack cares about making money, encouraging high profile people, journalists, writers etc onto the platform, that's where they make their money and events like the fete are aimed at the publicity. I repeat I for one was so, pleased to see Louise, and others there. Thank you Louise Tilbrook you deserved to be there. Please all you moaners don't turn Substack into an unfriendly environment.
The second Substack thing is Katie Clapham I found her here and bought her book. I loved it, it became my month, a morning wake up read, definitely recommend it. I would love to read BM’s musings if she ever comes here - if you want to know who BM is you’ll need to read the book Receipts From The Bookshop, no Katie Clapham doesn't know I've plugged her book.

Blinds drawn.
Only shorts and a bra top in the house/garden.
A water spray (XBC Instant Cooling Mist available from Amazon. I buy in dozens).
A wet flannel across my chest. This works well in bed too.
Always sit with my back against a towel.
A freezer full of Calippos.
Don't eat if you don't feel like it. Definitely don't cook anything.
Drink gallons.
I'm trying not to make a 'thing' of the weather either Jo and just doing what I can to stay coolish. I wrote a note about the SS party yesterday and thought I might get a backlash, but didn't. Love a book recommendation...have you read Good People by Patmeena Sabit? Such a great book! Thanks for the recommendation and keep cool 😘😘
