Reading you Jo makes me feel like its okay to speak my mind... to tell the truth... to rant...to express and to figure out what it is I have / need to say along the way. I'm quickly learning the my writing often starts off as one thing and quickly becomes something totally different. Thank you for your open and courageous writing. And YES - please share parts of your memoir with a paywall! Sending love and hope you are feeling better. Bring on Spring!

Thank you so much Carina.it is strange how writing can take you on some very different journeys and twists and turns. Although I suppose that is what being creative should be about. 😘😘

Jo, the political part of this resonates so strongly. What’s happening right now in the U.S. is somewhere between dispiriting (if you’re trying to ignore it) and terrifying (if you’re paying attention). There’s a connection with old age and getting old that I’m trying to put my finger on… growing old is NATURAL; it’s comforting, in a way, to think of it as an exciting and unexplored stage of life, filled with possibility and meaning making. What Trump et al are doing right now is UNNATURAL; they are dismantling the democratic systems most of us take for granted in the U.S. There are so many unknowns; we don’t know how this will end. The indignities and crap of old age pale in comparison. idk, I don’t have this quite worked out! Sending hugs and feel better soon.

I could not agree with you more. His postering and chumming up to Putin could come at incredible costs for the next generation. I just hope he hasn’t completely demolished democracy by the mid terms. Stay safe ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The political thing that happened that still hurts a lot is Brexit. I could just about hack being a European whilst living in the UK before but now I feel so other and unwelcome. No one ever says anything bad or even recognises that I’m not British but the vibe has changed.

Hope you feel better soon.

Francey I am so so sorry, it makes me ashamed. I know I don’t feel that way but there is something that pierces you when someone says they feel unwelcome in your country. It is not a place I want to recognise, but I cannot bury my head in the sand. The majority of us do not feel that way but the press, social media etc. push down the views and feelings of most of us. I wish I was near you in Cheltenham to give you a big hug, buy a bottle of wine, have a few minutes ranting and the rest of the time friendly, warm conversation about life, books, Substack anything ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Rant away. I'm aghast at what's happening or going to happen globally. I want to be positive but it's an uphill battle sometimes. Thank God for a 12 week Jack Russell pup who is by turns joyous and loathsome, cuddly and cantankerous, but so damned cute!

My husband is sick with a horrible virus just now and given how he feels, my sympathy also to you.

Lemon and honey, analgesics, a warm bed, a nice book (and whisky, apparently) and toast if you're hungry.

Thank you so much Prue, what is it about a big cuddle from a small little puppy, or bloody great big Labrador that gives us a lift, as yiu even if they are cantankerous. I hope you husband gets better very soon. This one seems to last and last, you think it’s gone away and Iit comes back🥴😘😘

First of all I’m very sorry to read that you’re poorly, there has been so many nasty viruses around this winter. Secondly, I can completely understand your rant as I too worry about what the orange blob wants to do and the effects it could have. That doesn’t make us political, it’s natural to be concerned. Thirdly, your writing is never boring because life evolves and new thoughts and experiences are what keeps our writing fresh. Therefore I personally wouldn’t worry about sharing your Memoir unless it’s something you feel is right in your heart. Perhaps share the journey of writing it so that it teases your readers enough to buy it when it’s released. In the meantime look after yourself and feel better soon 🌻

Thank you Wendy. The world get more bizarre by the day. If I thought that the orange blob could bring peace in Ukraine I would not be so worried. The grey blob invading Ukraine won’t stop there 😢❤️

Sorry you're not well Jo and it's fine to have a rant at your readers...rant away! I enjoy reading your writing, whatever you write about. I would say don't feel pressured to publish parts of your memoir unless you feel ready to do so. I sometimes feel I'm writing just to clarify things in my own head and no one is interested in reading it, but that's ok too. Hope you feel better soon, sending healing vibes ✨️ 😘
